Restoration
Charleston Historic Courthouse
Charleston, SC

Originally constructed in 1753 as South Carolina’s provincial capitol and reconstructed in 1792, the Charleston Historic Courthouse serves as the cornerstone of the city’s legal history. WxTite’s comprehensive restoration addressed critical structural and aesthetic needs to preserve this landmark.

The project tackled water intrusion by temporarily removing bluestone pavers for subgrade waterproofing installation before precise reinstatement. Extensive stucco work included removing 16,000 SF of finish coat, repairing 5,000 SF, refinishing 11,000 SF, and applying 16,000 SF of new coatings. Additional work encompassed restoration of all 83 fenestrations to preserve architectural details, 700 SF of stone surface cleaning and restoration, and repair of handrail anchors and pavers at the west entrance. The installation of 3,000 hurricane anchors enhanced resilience against severe weather, while 2,500 linear feet of tuck pointing addressed deteriorated mortar joints.

Blake Tenements
Built between 1760 and 1772 by Daniel Blake, this National Register of Historic Places property exemplifies colonial architecture. Restoration efforts prioritized authenticity by utilizing salvaged original bricks for exterior masonry repairs and reconstructing an interior brick archway. The project included meticulous restoration of entrance handrails and pavers, 450 SF of stucco repairs, and 3,000 linear feet of tuck pointing. Structural improvements involved replacing headers at two louvers and retrofitting a steel column to ensure long-term stability. These efforts preserve the building’s historic character while ensuring its continued contribution to Charleston’s architectural legacy.
