Restoration
First Baptist Church of Asheville
Asheville, NC

This project at First Baptist Church of Asheville addressed critical structural issues while preserving the church’s historical integrity. Key efforts included restoring roof parapet walls and terra-cotta elements, with special attention to matching the original design.

The sanctuary windows underwent meticulous historical restoration, including the removal and replacement of large plexiglass covers. Through-wall flashing was installed at the window heads and parapet walls using intricately soldered lead-coated copper. The project required over a mile of random masonry repointing and replacement of more than 1,000 damaged bricks with new units matching the original color and composition. Given that the bricks were over 100 years old, achieving an accurate match for both brick and mortar required dedicated effort from the team.
